The Super Highway

Considering that obstacle course trying to miss the potholes on the highways here in Chicago (especially Lake Shore Drive) I think we haven't quite made it to the future yet.

I love these things from the 50s and 60s showing what the "world of the future" would look like. Hardly any of these things actually came to pass, which really surprises me, because they actually made some sense. (Well, some of them, anyway!)

Why no progress? Because there are too many vested interests in keeping things the way they are, and still too much money to be made in oil/petroleum. If "our" government can mandate a switch in television technology (that we all upgrade to high-dfe). Why can't they mandate a switch in automotive technology? Oh...wait..we've had two Bush presidents..both with major ties to oil..not that it's all their fault. I want my ATOM SMASHING CAR!
